New database: American Periodicals Series Online

On-campus and remote access has been provided on the A-Z list of databases and the U.S History resource page to American Periodicals Series Online. It uses the ProQuest interface.

APS Online includes digitized images of the pages of American magazines and journals published from colonial days to the dawn of the 20th century. Titles range from Benjamin Franklin's General Magazine and America's first scientific journal, Medical Repository; popular magazines such as Vanity Fair and Ladies' Home Journal; regional and niche publications; and groundbreaking journals like The Dial, Puck, and McClure's.

The sample search page available at the bottom of the info page will give you an idea how this database can be utilized.

Journals contained within this resource will now show up in Find Periodicals and "Search for Full-text" links.

Mental Measurements Yearbook (MMY) with Tests in Print

Our subscription to Mental Measurements Yearbook is now provided by EBSCO and hosted on the EBSCOhost interface. This replaces the previous subscription we had through Ovid/Silver Platter.

With this change in vendor, we will also have access to an electronic version of Tests in Print incorporated into the database. Below is a comparison these two resources:

• MMY consists of descriptive entries, references and critical reviews of commercially published tests, published in English. Each MMY includes reviews of tests that are new or substantially revised since the previous edition.
• TIP is a comprehensive volume describing every test that is currently available for purchase.
• Not all tests and measures are reviewed in MMY and there are somewhat firm requirements that tests must meet to be featured.
• Because not all tests are reviewed in MMY, TIP is necessary to identify and locate tests which are available and in print, but not widely popular or used enough to be featured in MMY.

New resources: Gale InfoTrac Power Packs

A page has been created and placed in the A-Z list of databases called Gale InfoTrac Power Packs. This page was based on information provided on the TEL website and 1024x768 provides links through the APSU Gale portal for several Gale InfoTrac PowerPacks (Individual Subject Collections) provided by TEL. I hope to eventually provide access to each individual resource through the A-Z list of databases. In the meantime, this page will provide access to the resources and allow them to be counted as part of APSU usage statistics instead of TEL. A link to this page has also been added to the Tennessee Electronic Library (TEL) Databases page and the General resource page.

The PowerPack page I created explains which databases the content in these subsets come from and specifies whether or not any unique content is provided. A link to a page with brief descriptions and title lists for each database is also provided.

I am in the process of adding these collections to Gold-Rush, so these titles will begin to appear in Find Periodicals and Article Linker searches as well.
